Now users can block, unblock and file a complaint on their stolen smartphone just through a website

Central Equipment Identity Register (CEIR)

Phones have changed over time and so has their usage, which is not limited to connecting with other smartphone users. Now people all across the world are using it to store data and information that is important to them which makes them vulnerable to data breaches and spyware attacks. Indian government agencies have earlier found that stolen smartphones are smuggled into Pakistan and used for terrorism. These smartphones are registered in India but find their way to Pakistan which makes it more dangerous than ever before.

But the Department of Telecommunications, Govt of India has launched a new website named Central Equipment Identity Register (CEIR) which can help you to lodge a complaint on lost electronic gadgets. The complaint can be lodged using the IMEI number, receipt of the phone, and other information at a nearby police station. As soon as you lodge a complaint the device will be blocked. Just you need to go to the Ceir.gov.in website where you will see CEIR services. Go to the Block stolen/lost mobile and fill in all the required information about the phone.

How to find out if the second-hand mobile you are buying is stolen or not?

This website can also be used to unlock your device and the data that users fill in on this phone is used to distinguish secondhand phones from stolen phones. If you have bought a second-hand smartphone just download the Know Your Mobile application and dial *#06# on your second-hand device. The IMEI number of the secondhand device will appear on the screen that you need to fill in KYM. This KYM app uses the database of the Ceir.gov.in website and informs if the second-hand smartphone that you have bought is stolen or not.
